Slight Change Pending

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

Upon seeing a Web log the other day that had the exact same template as Cuparia, I was struck once again with the realization that the least I can do to differentiate Cuparia from other Web logs is change the masthead. It needs personality. It needs to reflect some aspect of the Cuparium, by thunder! So if Cuparia looks different in the near future, you have been prepared for the event. Sometimes change is good. I think this is one of those times.

The ABCs of Science Fiction and Fantasy Swearing

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

The Swearwords of Science Fiction and Fantasy page now includes alphabetical hyperlinks to assist you in locating that special expletive when more mundane curses are simply insufficient for your needs.

This service was brought to you by your speculative lexicographer at the Cuparium.

Cuplog Is Now Cuparia

The Cuparium’s Web log is now known as Cuparia, thanks to the unanimity of the [two] voters. Thank you, voters.

Cuplog by Any Other Name

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

I am contemplating a new name for Cuplog. I could just make it the main page of Cuparius.com and call it Cuparius.com, but I am hesitant to do so because Cuparius.com was around long before this Web log and I can’t shake the feeling that they are two separate entities. I’ve never been satisfied with the name “Cuplog,” however. It lends itself too readily to mispronunciation on the order of Klingon swearwords, e.g. “kuh-PLAHG!” I am considering three alternatives:

  1. Fragmenti Cuparii
  2. Ephemeris Cuparii
  3. Cuparia

If you have a preference, please leave a comment. If you have a suggestion for another name and I choose it, I will give you credit in the About page. Cuplog is ready for a reincarnation of nomenclature.

A Tentative Lifting of Restrictions

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Those who wish to comment may once again do so without logging in… for now. We shall see if the deluge of spam comments has subsided. Deluges of non-spam comments, of course, are not an imminent threat.

Not speaking of which, is the drink spelled scotch and threat or scotch-and-threat? Comments are welcome ;-)

Sandbags Against the Flood

In an effort to stave off the tsunami of spam comments that are currently flooding this Web log, I am temporarily requiring readers who wish to comment on posts to log in first. I apologize for any inconvenience.

It has been eight days shy of a year since I last added a link to the Links page of the Cuparium. The two newest links, added today, are in the Reference Tools category.

Power Rays for Every Occasion

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

I just realized I forgot to mention a new addition (uploaded 12 December 2008) to the odd reference page at the Cuparium, namely Powers of Space Ghost.

Futuristic Small Arms in Film and Television Survey

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Futuristic Small Arms in Film and Television is a list or survey of science fiction weapons from live-action films and television shows as well as comic strips. Included are pistols, rifles, portable artillery, and suitable futuristic hand-to-hand weapons. Excluded are unique weapons (e.g. the Glaive from Krull, the Demat Gun from Doctor Who, the Positronic Ray from Barbarella), weapons that can be used only once (e.g. Cyberbombs, Dalekanium Bombs, and Nova Devices from Doctor Who), and doomsday weapons (e.g. the Doomsday Device from Doctor Strangelove, the Time Destructor from Doctor Who).

Please feel free to leave comments or suggestions.

Art and Craft Supplies

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Yesterday, I bought some professional modeling clay, so papier mäché is on the horizon. The local craft store was sold out of Super Sculpey, but it was also holding a 30% off sale on all clay and sculpting supplies, so I finally bought some Super Sculpey Firm, which is supposed to have a phenomenal capacity for capturing minute detail. There was only one other package left, and this is the last day of the sale, so maybe I’ll buy the last one before I go to work this afternoon. Danny Boy bought some acrylic paints so we could start painting puppet heads. We had used Liquitex acrylic paints in tubes for the Harry Potter puppets, which worked well, so we decided to use them again after my brief and unsuccessful experiment with Ceramcoat liquid acrylics (which are very inexpensive, but have poor texture for our purposes and a dull matte appearance).

In related news, I added Sculpey.com to the links page of the Cuparium.
