Resolved
It is time to post my resolutions for the New Year.
First, I will beat the deadline and submit the events I'll be running at Origins 2006 by January 31st. Origins, as you will recall, is one of the oldest and largest gaming conventions in the world. This year. it will be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio from June 29th through July 2nd. I shall be running a minimum of four role-playing events, and playing as many role-playing games, war games, board games, card games, and parlor games as I can squeeze into my schedule. If you want to know more, feel free to send me e-mail at the address listed at the bottom of this page.
Second, I will procure shelves and put my library of books, music, movies, and games in order.
Third, I will begin making more puppets with the aim of a.) giving at least two public performances in 2006, and b.) selling puppets online and/or in stores and/or fairs of any kind.
Fourth, I will start submitting fiction and poetry for publication again.
Fifth, I will bring at least one of my other Web sites to a state worthy of being seen by others.
Sixth, I will find a way for my brother and myself to earn some money with our art by getting our work exhibited at art fairs, sold on consignment in shops, sold online, or some other means.
Seventh, I will replace the clan tartan neckties I had purchased from the Scottish Country Shop in Portland, Oregon (which I lost along with the rest of my luggage on my last flight to Portland).
Eighth (added 21 January), I will fly (and perhaps even build) kites. It has been too many years since I was last active in the hobby.
Ninth (added 21 January), I will set up my Christmas tree. It has been ten years since I last set it up, yet I keep buying ornaments. This is the year I'll start observing the tradition again.
Tenth (added 21 January), I will buy a digital camera. I have a collection of old cameras, most of which I am happy to use, but I need a digital camera for its ease of integration with software applications and its convenience in posting pictures online. It would be incredibly useful in my plans for setting up online catalogues and portfolios of artwork, puppets, and other projects. Plus, I need a good camera for taking snapshots and extreme close-ups. I have my eye on a Nikon Coolpix.
Eleventh (added 21 January), acquire a sewing machine or get my mother's sewing machine repaired, and then learn how to sew. The motivation for learning this skill (for which I have no inherent talent whatsoever) is to be able to make the bodies and costumes of puppets. I should probably leave this one off the list, but here it is anyway.
Twelfth (added 21 January), learn more about miniature sculpting and possibly try my hand at it. By miniatures, I am referring to pewter figurines used in historical, fantasy, and science fiction wargaming. I'm not sure about the casting part of it, but the sculpting I could manage, and if the results are good I might find a way to earn some money in an industry that has a surprising shortage of sculptors.
Thirteenth (added 21 January), play tiddlywinks.
Fourteenth (added 21 January), break my previous record for updating the Cuparium!
Undoubtedly, I am forgetting a few items, which I may or may not add to the list before the end of the month. It is nearly time for me to leave for work, however, so ta'ra for now.
I'll keep posting if you keep reading. Be seeing you... :-?
