Merry Christmas Anyway
I must admit that I am very fond of Christmas--except for one or two (or more) seasonal nuisances such as holiday shoppers, holiday drivers, holiday pedestrians, holiday con artists, bad driving conditions due to inclement weather, bad driving conditions due to laws that enable morons who ought to be permanently attached to chain gangs to have driving licenses, the slaughter of innocent trees when a potted one or an artificial one will suffice, the distasteful obsession of merchants with the "bottom line," extended mall hours, crowded mall parking lots, queues at mall restaurants, overloaded mall dumpsters, malls, noise, glares, complaints, pushing, shoving, interrupting, hustling, bustling, jostling, wassailing... ah, headache... I'd better stop before... ow, too late.
I really do enjoy Christmas. Seriously. Well, I enjoy the idea of it. Under certain circumstances, were I not involved with the nightmare world of retail, Christmas would be a splendid time of year. I think I remember a past when it was splendid... Och, never mind. You had to be there.
Although it would make a good anecdote... Nah. Forget I mentioned it.
Succinct Notes
Added an engraving to the nonsense page.
Replaced the background on the links page to improve legibility... again. This time, however, you have a choice to view it with two different backgrounds. IT'S EXCITING!
Site-Seeing
Beginning at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Christmas Eve, NASA will once again employ its technology in tracking Santa's progress with the Santa Tracker, providing hourly updates at NASA Human Space Flight.
From the Bookshelf
I am in too much pain to enjoy a book at the moment. I have postponed the removal of my wisdom teeth for, och, about fifteen years, and they have forcibly reminded me of their existence for the last time. This week I shall make an appointment with the dentist. Meanwhile, read something by P.G. Wodehouse, perhaps Carry on, Jeeves. Laughter is needed.
At the Cinema
I was supposed to see The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers today, but the pain in my jaw would have detracted from the experience, so I decided to postpone it :-(
On the Telly
Last Sunday I was profoundly relieved to discover that CBC is showing Jeeves and Wooster again, and I look forward to seeing another episode tonight. 'Tis medicine for my soul, truly. Thanks bunches, Father Xmas!
Quotations, Possibly?
"Customers who wear clothes also shop for Clean Underwear from Amazon's Target Store."
--Amazon.com
Is that so? How (un)interesting.
I'll keep posting if you keep reading. Be seeing you... :-?
