NEWLY UPDATED

nonsense

SALUTATIONS

In the last update here at the Cuparium I promised that the next update would be much better. Sorry.

Apologies aside, I would like to draw your attention to the left side of the screen. Yes, due to no demands whatsoever, I have decided to make an archive of previous front pages of the Cuparium for those of you who have missed them or just wish to take a stroll down Recent Memory Lane. You're welcome.

I know, I know. I can't help it. I was once employed as an archival specialist. 'Tis a habit.

Update... Update... What else was I going to mention? Oh, yes! In the near future (and here, once again, we enter Cuparian Relativity) I shall finally post the long-awaited photographs of the haunted upper floors of the building wherein I was once employed as a purveyor of recorded music. I hope to post them in time for Halloween. (I must remember to get those rolls of film developed...)

Last week I nearly doubled my DVD collection with the purchase of Hard Day's Night, the brilliant first movie by The Beatles; The Vikings, starring Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis; and FIVE Japanese monster movies in a slipcase including Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Mothra, Terror of Mechagodzilla, Godzilla's Revenge, and Rodan. It was only $24.88! So now I have seventeen DVDs. One of these days I'll have a DVD player, too.

Site-Seeing

On Sunday I cooked my first meal at my new abode. "What?!?" you ask. "You've been there how long and this is the first meal you've cooked?" Yes. I've been dining out rather a lot of late, and there isn't much I'm qualified to cook. I can manage spaghetti, however. It was a staple when I lived in Portland, Oregon. Now that I am cooking again, I have returned to my favorite brand of noodles (Creamette) and sauce (Newman's Own). Paul Newman is the "Newman" in Newman's Own, and he donates all of the profits from the sale of his products to charities. Moreover, his brand is excellent. The labels make enjoyable (and surreal) reading, and were penned by Mr. Newman himself. If you do not have a favorite pasta sauce or salad dressing, try it. You'll be converted, too.

From the Bookshelf

The next cookbook you need in your kitchen is The Hole in the Wall Gang Cookbook: Kid-Friendly Recipes for Families to Make Together (ISBN 0684848430) by Paul Newman and A.E. Hotchner. I quote from the back cover: "In 1988, Paul Newman and A.E. Hotchner established the first Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases, using the profits from their food company, Newman's Own." And: "Proceeds from this book go directly to the Hole in the Wall Gang Fund." Within you will find recipes from such folks as Rosemary Clooney, Julia Roberts, David Letterman, and others. Kid-friendly recipes--even I could do it!

At the Cinema

Contrary to Newman's personality, The Hustler from 1961 is a film of dark and desperate intensity. Paul Newman plays the complex protagonist, and Jackie "The Great One" Gleason his famous rival, Minnesota Fats. George C. Scott and Piper Laurie lend their immense talents to this classic psychological drama.

On the Telly

On the sixth I caught the last four minutes of a new show called Bram and Alice. I don't know if it's good, but Traylor Howard (the actress who plays Alice) is cute, and the premise is interesting, so I'll give it a try.

Och, and Paul Newman is in it. [A character called "Paul Newman," not the actor.]

Bram and Alice is on CBS on Sundays at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Quotations, Possibly?

"Gordon's alive!"
--Prince Vultan, Ruler of the Hawkpeople
from Flash Gordon
(I couldn't think of a Paul Newman quotation.)

I'll keep posting if you keep reading. Be seeing you...       :-?
